Geodynamics in the context of vibrations induced by rail traffic (Geodynamics and vibrations due to trains)

Funded by EEA Grants – Fund for Bilateral Relations

As a key component of this initiative, a lecture and an advanced course were recently held at the Lusófona University of Porto.
The lecture, entitled “Offshore Wind Structures: dynamics and earthquake aspects”, was given by Professor Amir Kaynia and took place on 30th of March.

On 30st March and 1st April, was held an advanced course, called “Soil Dynamics and Engineering Applications”, divided into two modules:

  1. geotechnical earthquake engineering;
  2. ground vibration from railways.

This course was coordinated and assisted by Professor Amir Kaynia (NTNU) and Dr. Brian Carlton (NGI), each responsible for one of these modules.

These events were planned for students, researchers, teachers and professionals in the fields of geotechnics and railways. In both cases, there was a lot of interest in participating, whether from an internal (ULP) or external perspective. For their part, the participants were very interested and pleased.
